Strawberries Cream French Toast (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 loaf Texas Toast or any thick bread, approximately 8-10 slices
02 - 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
03 - 1/3 cup strawberry jam
04 - 2/3 cup strawberries, sliced into small pieces
05 - 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
06 - 1 cup whole milk
07 - 3 large eggs
08 - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
09 - 2 tablespoons brown sugar
10 - 5 tablespoons butter, for pan

11 - Fresh berries (blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries)
12 - Powdered sugar
13 - Real maple syrup
14 - Fresh whipped cream

# Instructions:

01 - In a small bowl, beat together cream cheese, strawberry jam, and lemon zest. Fold in the sliced strawberries.
02 - Spoon the cream mixture onto one slice of bread. Top with another slice of bread to form a sandwich.
03 - In a shallow dish, whisk together milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and brown sugar until smooth.
04 - Place a 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium-low heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter per batch of French toast.
05 - Working in batches, dip each sandwich into the custard batter, letting each side soak for about 10 seconds. Transfer the soaked bread to the skillet with melted butter.
06 - Cook the French toast for about 4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
07 - Serve warm, topped with fresh berries, powdered sugar, whipped cream, and real maple syrup.
