Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch baking dish or a similar-sized casserole dish.

In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add milk, melted butter, egg yolk, and vanilla extract to the bowl and stir until well combined.

Gently fold in the semisweet chocolate chips.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Do not stir.

Carefully pour the boiling water over the batter (do not stir). The water will create the fudge sauce on the bottom.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is set and the cake looks slightly cracked. The pudding should still be soft underneath the crust.

Let the cake cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
