In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned. Drain any excess fat and set aside.

Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.

On the unbuttered side of two slices, add the ground beef. Layer with cheese and top with the other slice of bread, buttered side facing out.

In a skillet over medium heat, cook each sandwich for 4–5 minutes per side or until golden brown and the cheese is melted through.

Slice in half and serve immediately while warm and melty.
