Brew some espresso with either a stovetop espresso maker or an espresso machine. You can swap this out for 4 ounces of strong, freshly brewed coffee if needed.

Gently heat up your milk, then whip it into foam using a whisk, a frother, or a steam wand from an espresso machine.

Mix the frothy milk with the vanilla syrup in your favorite cup.

Carefully pour the espresso right on top of the foam to leave a nice mark on the surface.

Drizzle caramel all around the edges of your cup in two rings, then make a checkerboard pattern over the foam in the center.
